Dr. Eric Von Holdt graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee with his Doctor of Optometry and had a general optometry practice in the Grand Forks office of Bagan Strinden Vision before joining the team at Lake Region Eye Center. Eric offers patients a full range of professional eyecare services, including routine eye exams, contact lens fitting, cataract evaluation, glaucoma and macular degeneration diagnosis and treatment, along with LASIK consultations. A native of Bemidji, Minnesota, Eric now lives in the Alexandria area, and when not in the office, he loves spending time with his three children and enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, and watching Minnesota Twins baseball, Fighting Sioux hockey, and Vikings football.

Optical Staff


David Schneiderhan came back to the Alexandria area in 1998 to open Lake Region Eye Center. Before returning to Alexandria, Dave practiced opticianry in Hastings, Minnesota, where he owned an Optical Dispensary in a medical clinic. He has also worked as a practice administrator for twenty-four ophthalmologists and optometrists within one of the largest health systems in Minnesota. He received his Opticianry Degree at Pima College of Opticianry in Tucson, Arizona. He is certified by the American Board of Opticianry and is a fellow in the National Academy of Opticianry.

Outside of work, Dave enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing, reading, and spending time with his family. He is always looking for adventure and loves to travel, learn about new cultures, and experience new places, even if it means he has to get lost along the way.


Gina graduated from Ashby High School and went on to study at Alexandria Technical College. She has been working in the optical field for five years and loves helping people find just the right pair of stylish new frames. When she is not in the clinic, she enjoys playing softball, and spending time fishing with her husband, Andrew, and their black lab, Apollo.

Administrative Staff


Gwen Thoennes is a native and lifelong resident of Douglas County. She attended Jefferson High School and went on to graduate from Alexandria Technical and Community College with a degree in Office Administration. She has over twenty years of experience working in office administration and management and has been the heart of the Lake Region Eye team for over ten years.

When she is not working at Lake Region, she helps her husband on their dairy farm in Millerville, where she drives tractor and feeds and cares for the animals. She also takes great pride in the upkeep of her beautifully restored farm house. If she had free time, she said that she would enjoy traveling to visit her daughters, spoiling her six adorable grandchildren, and going to the lake.


DeAnn Runge is native to the Alexandria area and graduated from Jefferson High School. After graduation, she attended Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN earning her Bachelor,s Degree in Business. She held several summer jobs doing office work, before joining Lake Region Eye Center in 2004. As part of Lake Region Eye, DeAnn performs administrative duties, including bookkeeping and payroll.

When she is not working, DeAnn loves to get outside whenever she can. She particularly enjoys the summer months. She has a cat and a beautiful service dog that impresses everyone with his delightfulness and remarkable abilities whenever he comes around.
